I am a homeopath
and Bowen therapist operating in and around Birmingham: I offer
gentle and effective remedies to back pain, neck problems, asthma
and eczema and many other common and uncommon complaints.
Homeopathy
is a system of medicine that uses minuscule amounts of potentised
substances to stimulate the body to heal itself. Homeopathy works
a little like a vaccination; a small amount of a substance that
can cause an illness can cure a similar illness. A great deal of
skill is often required to select the correct remedy or remedies
to suit the individual.
Classical
Homeopathy often works in a ‘top down’
manner, real physical ailments, often serious illnesses, are often
cured by prescribing remedies based on a persons emotions and personality.
We all know instinctively that emotions can affect us physically
causing real diseases. Explained in a more medical way, our beliefs
affect our emotions, our emotions affect our hormones (our bodies
chemical messengers and regulators). Our hormones affect our health
right down to a cellular level. Of course our emotions also affect
our posture, appetite, digestion etc.
Bowen could be said to
work in a ‘bottom up manner’ It corrects postural and
structural problems in the body, this can directly help back problems
etc., less directly it can help physical problems like asthma, and
indirectly by improving the posture, function and relaxation of
the body can be very effective in treating emotional problems like
depression. Bowen gently encourages the person’s own muscles
to readjust and pull themselves into shape which is usually longer
lasting than ‘Pull and tug’ techniques
My Training and experience
A great deal of skill is often required to select the correct remedy
or remedies to suit the individual. I am a registered experienced
and fully trained homeopath Having studied both classical and eclectic
styles of homeopathy at the College of practical Homeopathy for
four years, followed by seven years of practical experience. I have
studied the Bowen Technique under the European College of Bowen
Studies and also a slightly different form (known as the Neuro structural
integration technique) under Michael Nixon-Livy. This style is based
on Tom Bowen’s later work. Both styles have their advantages.
The Bowen Technique
The Bowen technique is a series of soft tissue moves designed to
allow the body to reset and heal itself. Using thumbs and fingers,
the practitioner lightly moves specific muscles, tendons and ligaments,
which promotes the healthy function of body systems. It is gentle
and non-manipulative. The Bowen technique addresses the whole person,
allowing it to re-balance itself and commence the healing process.
